Thanks for tapping in to The Life N Times Network !
The Fight #91 LNT cuts through the hype and gets straight to the reality of fight night. We open on the UK card, where Dave Allen vs. Philippe Farris becomes a brutal reminder that heavyweight boxing leaves no room for mistakes, and why a smart stoppage can save a career.
Then we jump to the Top Rank card, where the scorecards take center stage. Jan Santana vs. Christian Cruz felt razor-close, Kelvin Davis vs. Peter Dobson brought the classic “prospect vs. perception” debate, and Brian Norman Jr.’s rebound after the Devin Haney loss raises the big question: what’s the right move if he wants a belt?
We close with Keyshawn Davis vs. Nahir Albright. Paperwork drama aside, Keyshawn showed levels. Sharp jab, scary speed, clean control, and signs that working around Shakur Stevenson is sharpening his game even more.
Episode 91 Kickoff
SPEAKER_00It's Late N LA The Fight Episode 91. Keyshawn the Businessman Davis versus not here Albright 2. Listen, let's get into it. But before we get into that, let's go into the UK card that also popped off earlier that day. Got up early with the Brits for this one. Dave Allen versus Philippe. And it was a clear, clear difference in skill, will, ability, and game plan. It was like Dave Allen didn't know what to do, how to survive, or even how to get out of these scenarios. The skill gap with the British level compared to the world is crazy. Shout out to him getting that third-round stoppage. Phillip Farris getting that third-round stoppage on Dave Allen, man, knockout, TKO, his team through the tile end. This is heavyweight fighting. We just saw Fabio Worley get battered last weekend. So I'm glad they're pulling their fighters out of there. If he can't get out of the way, if he's just taking shots, because at certain points, Dave Allen was just a bunching bag out there. He was just getting hurt. He's just getting abused out there. And honestly, it was bad to look at. It was hard to look at. If you can't get past the jet, you can't get past the damage coming your way, and this is the heavyweight division, man. Listen, Dave Allen's had a lot of resurgences in his career, but he hasn't been able to get over the hump when it comes to going up in talent level. He's at a certain level and at a certain age that he's just a honestly, I think he's skirting the lines of becoming a journeyman if he continues this career path. And I don't want that for him. He's an excellent British heavyweight, done his time, got his titles as far as national titles. And it's good to see Dave Allen make some money for him and his family. But listen, man, at this level, it's not enough to have a good story. You gotta have a good job, too. Shout out to Philippe. Round three, TKO. Then we get into the Keyshawn Davis, businessman versus not here, Albright. Woo. And just to start off the call, the card, we have Jan Satana versus Christian Cruz. I thought Christian Cruz won this fight. I thought Satana, if he won the fight, it was close. Honestly, this is the clearest example of a draw I have ever seen. If you saw the fight live, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Satana had flashes and he had rounds, but I don't think he had the fight. Cruz obviously was in the fight, landing big punches, showing heart and gusto that the only thing that really was the biggest difference between Satana and Cruz is that Cruz was sloppier and Satana looked more accurate when he delivered his punches. I still call the fight a draw. That fight is a draw in my eyes. Kelvin Davis, he also lost this fight in my eyes. Something's going on with this camp as far as Kelvin Davis. This is a top-ranked card, so a lot of top-ranked fighters are not going to lose if it's close, if it's swing rounds, if it's anything like that. It was a close fight. It could have gone to either fighter, but that's just how it goes when it's a top-ranked card. Kelvin Davis is a part of the whole card show. His brother won earlier and was the prelims. He capped off the prelims. So great fights from all the Davis brothers and the brotherhood they're showing. It's just that an impartial look into the boxing that's going on, I thought Peter Dobson won that fight. If anything, he made it harder than it should have been for Kelvin. Now, we get into Brian Norman Jr., he's coming off the loss from Devin Haney. They put him in there with somebody he could beat. I'm sorry. This is the confidence booster fight. The guy did not look like he wanted to be there. The guy looked like he didn't want to engage. The guy looked like he was afraid of the power. He knew about the power, heard about the power, knew he didn't have the feet. Listen, if you go in there with Brian Norman Jr. and you don't have the feet like Devin Haney or the footwork like Devin Haney or a jab like Devin Haney or even the delivery system of Devin Haney. Brian is a great hammer, but when he has to be a nail, he can't really operate going backwards. And if you get him going backwards, you can get the fight. Brian Norman didn't have to do any of that. I didn't see this fight as a real test. I didn't see it as something that would be anything more than an exhibition of Norman Jr. just getting back onto the scene of boxing and getting used to being in the boxing arena. He went up in level when he fought Devin Haney, and he has to come back and claw back to where he was at, as far as where he was at the welterweight division, as far as respect, and where he's at as a fighter and who he's going to fight next. I would love to see him fight someone that has a belt. Devin has the belt. Anybody with a belt, he should try to fight. Now, Keyshawn Davis versus Nahir Albright, this is after a no contest between the men because Keyshawn was caught with cannabis in his system after the fight. So it was called a no contest. This is the same fight, but the result is a no-contest in Keyshawn Davis' way. I say it's a no-contest because Nahir Albright was not in the fight. He had a couple of rounds, he had a couple of moments. And a couple of rounds and a couple of moments aren't enough to win a fight. Keyshawn Davis had him behind the jab, behind the punches, moving backwards the entire fight. Keyshawn has incredibly fast hands, and I don't think anybody is as fast as him in his division. And I think he's a problem for everybody because of his speed and his durability and his slick defense to offense. Easy UD. Easily saw and seen during the fight who won that. I thought Albright would make it a little bit more rougher and tougher for him. But listen, there's levels. There's levels, and I think Keyshawn's at that next level. I think the training with Shakur and that team over there is really taking him to the next level. I think Shakur and Keyshawn Davis are like two sides of the same coin. One is offense, one is defense. So it's good to see what these guys do next. I know they're clamoring for them to fight, but I believe that brothers iron sharpens iron. Let those two work and let those two build upon each other. There's plenty of people to fight in the division. Loma just came back. Let's see what he wants to do. This is episode 91 of the fight that's happening.
