A guillotine so tight it ends the fight on the spot. A technical shutout that proves there are still real levels in the UFC. And a main event where Rafael Faziv has no room left for mistakes and answers with a Round 2 knockout. We run through the UFC Baku main card with the kind of detail you want if you care about how fights are actually won, not just who got their hand raised.
We start with Abbas versus Michael and a vicious early submission that sets the tone, then move into Ikran versus Bruno where the gap shows up everywhere: cleaner striking, better wrestling, sharper jiu-jitsu, and a decision that feels inevitable. From there we dig into Asu versus Charles Johnson and the chess match that grapplers force, when the threat of takedowns steals a striker’s rhythm and turns creativity into hesitation. We also talk about the “cost” a striker has to create, making every shot and clinch attempt pay a price.
The night brings violence too, with Matias turning a striking exchange into a Round 1 TKO and silencing the arena, plus a real debate on scoring when someone looks like a one-round wrecking ball but fades as the fight stretches. We close with the bigger picture: lightweight is heating up, the old guard can’t hold the line forever, and performances like this reshape the rankings fast. If you liked this breakdown, subscribe, share the episode with a fight fan, and leave a review, what was the biggest turning point on the UFC Baku card?
Setting Up UFC Baku Card
SPEAKER_00Lane LA. The fight. Episode 95. We are going over UFC Baku in the main card. Headlined by Rafael Fazif.
Abbas Lands A Brutal Guillotine
SPEAKER_00Now, we start off the card with Abbas versus Michael. We got Abbas getting the round one guillotine choke. Vicious. He choked that man unconscious. It was crazy. His eyes was popping out. One of those old school toys or slinky the way it was just extended out this man's eyeballs from his sockets from that choke. He was vicious. Shout out to Abbas. Shout out to UFC Baku. I got up at 9 o'clock to watch this card and I was not disappointed.
Ikran Dominates In Every Phase
SPEAKER_00We move on to Ikron versus Bruno. I thought Ikron could beat this man any way he wanted. I think he's very polished. I think he is a better striker. I think he is a better wrestler. I think he had better subs. And he got the easy UD. The easiest decision I ever seen to make for a judge, easy 30-27. Shout out to his opponent who was on a winning streak. But there's levels to the UFC. And when you have a guy from that background with a grappling heavy base, and he can also fight and use his striking and mix it up. And he was beating him everywhere. He completely beat him. Striking, ground game, jujitsu. It did not matter. It was no situation where Ikron was not dominating Bruno. So 30-27, unanimous decision is the exact score it should be.
Asu Neutralizes Charles Johnson
SPEAKER_00Shout out to Ikran for the win. And we move on to Asu versus Charles Johnson. Charles Johnson was getting worked from round one until he got subbed in round three. It's just a difference in skill on the ground. So he can't get his striking going. And if he doesn't sit with his punches and kicks and starts that creativity or has the room to be creative. There's a lot of things with grapplers in strikers where a grappler can just be enough of a threat for the takedown or the sub to force the striker into a passivity that creates a lane for Charles Johnson to get outstruck and out-grappled and then eventually choked out. It was just a matter of time before Charles ran out of time. I think he should have just stood his ground. I think he should have accepted that he may go down in this fight. He needs to do damage beforehand. I think a lot of strikers need to have that mindset. I'm going to go down, I'm going to get up, and I'm going to finish this guy. And I'm going to try to hurt him every time he tries to take me down. It has to be some type of cost. When we get into boxing, we'll talk about the cost in the receipts high-level fighters create for every exchange. And it felt like Asue had a he had a crazy answer to each and every question Charles is trying to pose to him in the fight.
Matias Scores A Vicious TKO
SPEAKER_00Now we get into Matias versus Nazim, round one, TKO, vicious fight, back and forth. It wasn't back and forth, but it was hammered now. Shout out to Matias, bro. Vicious fight, man. Play spoiler. People didn't want him to win. It is what it is. He did it for the Brazilians. Nobody was really clapping for him. He silenced the arena. It was a great moment. Great card. And listen, man, if you're going to strike with a striker, this is what can happen. You know, it's a dangerous game. I'm glad both fighters are healthy after it. Shout out to Matthias.
One-Round Fighter Debate And Scoring
SPEAKER_00And we're on to the next Colbane shower bullet versus Michael Piero. Michael Piero puts bullet on his ass in round one. But if he doesn't get it done in round one, he's done. Michael Piero is around is a one-round fighter. And that's just not gonna snuff. That's not gonna do it at the highest levels. It's not gonna do it at all. It's cute. You can be some lower rank guys, you can put people in danger, but if round two and round three, you're not that guy, and he wasn't, shower outworked them to the last two rounds, and he won 2-1 easily. It's not really hard to see, bro. Like you won one round, you dropped the one round. Like a knockdown only matters in that realm, guys. If the fight goes all three rounds, it only matters what happened in round one. Okay, that's round one. Round two, that's a whole different story. And round three was one as well. Charlie gets the win. I think he should fight an Izzy. I think there's a lot of people calling out Izzy. He's gonna have to fight one of these boys. He's gonna have to either fight one of these guys or get out the rankings. And I think he needs to get out the rankings. I think he's more so in the rankings because of his legacy
Faziv Bounces Back With Round Two KO
SPEAKER_00now. Now, going into the main card event, we have the young, hungry Manuel Torres coming in trying to get a KO off of Rafael Faziv, who has just lost to Rufi prior by knockout and lost by UD against Gagey prior. So he's coming off a two-loss skid. And now he got everything's on the line again. You know, he this is his third time showcasing, and he showed out. He got the round two KO on the younger guy, punches and bunches, the spinning kick out of round two, really changed the fight and pushed it into another stratosphere.
Lightweight Division Shift And Wrap-Up
SPEAKER_00The 155 division is on fire. GayT cannot hold that belt forever. He's 38. Max Holloway can't hold it forever. Charles is getting older. All the top guys at that division is getting older, and now people are having to give up their spot or get out of line. Shout out to everybody that tapped in. We did not bet on the UFC card. I was betting strictly boxing. We're gonna get into the boxing card after this. This is the fight, episode 95. UFC Faku hits Lay and L.
